Sri Sri Swami Sri Yukteswar
While writing about his Guru Sri Yukteswar, Paramahansa
Yogananda quotes the following saying from Hindu scriptures in his 'The autobiography of a
'In shallow men, the fish of little thoughts cause much
commotion. In oceanic minds, the whales of inspiration make hardly a ruffle.'
The book Holy Science shows us the oceanic mind of Sri
Yukteswar. This book was written by him on the advice of Mahavatar Babaji, to establish the
basic truth in all religions.
This book has four chapters (1) The Gospel (2) The Goal (3) The
Procedure (4) The Revelation. Sri Yukteswar writes in the introduction that these sections are organized according
to the four stages in the development of knowledge.
The first chapter explains about the fundamental truths of creation.
The second chapter lists the goal of all creatures which is to reach the state of Existence, Consciousness and
Bliss. The third chapter deals with the method of achieving this goal and the last chapter discusses the
revelations that come on this journey.
Sri Yukteswar provides many quotes from Bible in order to show the
underlying commonality in religions. His explanation of Bible has no parallel and in later years Yogananda wrote
the spiritual interpretation of Bible 'The second coming of Christ' recently published by SRF.
In the introduction, Swami Yukteswar explains about the Hindu concept
of Yugas and the influence of time on consciousness. It is popularly believed in India that the present age is
Kaliyuga which represents the age of knowledge at the minimum. Yukteswarji points out that this is a mistake and
the present age is ascending Dwapara yuga which is facilitating rapid expansion of knowledge. Swami Yukteswar's
excellent explanation about these concepts is a must read for all.
