To heaven and back - Mary C. Neal Book Review

  Mary C. Neal

To Heaven and Back author Mary C. Neal, MD

To heaven and back

For last few years heaven and back experiences have been increasing. The proof of other dimensions is increasingly getting established. (Check about the rise of consciousness in the minsobooks Yuga theory page). The message that comes is obvious - beyond all the worldly passions, there is a heavenly love and if we can make even a small effort to understand this, our lives can become immensely better and fulfilled.

Here is one more such real experience by Mary C. Neal, MD in her book  To Heaven and Back: A Doctor's Extraordinary Account of Her Death, Heaven, Angels, and Life Again: A True Story.

The death and come back

Death probably is not the right word here but I am still using it for want of better word. During the year 1999, Mary drowns in a kayak (small boat) accident. She was under water for considerable amount of time and she looses her life during that span. Her husband and others bring her body to the shore trying to put life into her. After some time, they find themselves successful to bring her back to consciousness.

However, during this period between her death and coming back, Mary was conscious of going to heaven. She was welcomed by her past relatives and friends and was led to a large brilliant hall. While she was about to enter, she was informed that she should go back to earth as it was not her time now. She feels so much overwhelming love that she just wanted to stay in the heaven but she had to return. She describes her experience quite vividly in this book.

The span of experience was not large but it had a life changing effect on her and would have a great impact on the readers as well.

Later on she comes to know about the reason she was sent back - to share her story, to encourage others to believe and keep trust. Being a doctor and scientist, she was able to objectively analyse and put forth her experience in a very simple but understanding manner.

Some good quotes from the book 'To heaven and back'

All chapters are prefixed by meaningful quotes from Bible and Mary C Neal also explains various Biblical texts in the light of her experience. Apart from this, here are some good and meaningful quotes from her own text in the book:

  • Thankfully God is patient and God is faithful. He sits in the backseat just waiting for our invitation to move up to the front so that He can steer and press the pedals. (ch 5)
  • I feel as though I am trying to describe a three-dimensional experience while living in a two-dimentional world. (ch 12)
  • As Chad later said, "Let's not let life muddle what happened. We were all part of a miracle."

What is interesting is that though Mary Neal was a believer of God, she was not particularly religious. Her experience demonstrates spirituality as the true meaning of religion.

Whether you are a believer or not, it does not matter, this book provides a strong message that there is God's unconditional love for each of us and we only need to be aware and put a small effort to realize it.

Mary C. Neal's book is truly an inspiring and thought provoking book.
